How to Build a Facebook Ads Funnel, Step by Step

A working Facebook ads funnel is a chain: ad → landing page → follow-up → sale → retargeting. Most funnels fail at one link, not all five. Here is the chain, the job of each link, and the plays that do it.

Step 1 — Pick the play before the ad

The play is the shape of the whole funnel: what the ad promises, what the page captures, how follow-up closes. Picking the ad first is how funnels end up as disconnected pieces. Kronos's library holds 50 plays in five packs; the builder selects one for your offer and explains the choice. Examples:

#1 Lead magnet + email nurture

Structure: FB/IG ad → opt-in page → 5-7-email nurture → core offer/call

Fits: Coaches, info, services, B2B · Benchmark: Baseline [W25] CPL $27.66 / CVR 7.72%; page median [LP] 6.6%

#2 Checklist / cheat-sheet magnet

Structure: Ad → 1-field opt-in → delivery + tripwire on thank-you → nurture

Fits: B2B, agencies, SaaS · Benchmark: Checklists 24-42% opt-in (Scrap.io summary of Unbounce/shno.co)

#3 Ebook / whitepaper

Structure: Ad → gated download page → nurture → demo/sale

Fits: B2B, finance, SaaS · Benchmark: Weakest format: 4-8% opt-in (Scrap.io summary of Unbounce/shno.co) — position as authority, not volume

#4 Quiz / assessment funnel

Structure: Ad → multi-step quiz → email gate at results → segmented nurture → matched offer

Fits: Beauty, health, coaching, e-com, education · Benchmark: Riddle 2025 Quiz Marketing Report (3.13B questions): 41.4% opt-in, 73.4% completion, CPL 37% lower than pop-up route

#5 Calculator / ROI tool

Structure: Ad → interactive calculator → email the report → nurture → call

Fits: Finance, SaaS, home services, agencies · Benchmark: Interactive tools > static: quizzes/calculators 30-50% opt-in range cited by involve.me/Qzzr via findskill.ai (directional, vendor data)

#6 Live webinar funnel

Structure: Ad → registration page (38-44% reg.) → reminders → live teach + pitch → replay close seq.

Fits: Coaching, info, SaaS, B2B · Benchmark: EasyWebinar 2026 [EW]: registration 38-44%, show-up 38.4% median-51.3%, CTA ~22%, attendee to buyer 5-20%

#7 Evergreen / simulive webinar

Structure: Ad → starting soon registration → automated session → evergreen close seq.

Fits: Info, coaching, SaaS · Benchmark: Same [EW] stack as live webinar; ~58% of marketers run an evergreen alongside live (EasyWebinar)

#8 5-day challenge (free)

Structure: Ad → challenge registration → daily live/email lessons in FB group → Day-5 pitch

Fits: Coaching, fitness, creators, courses · Benchmark: Opt-in page target 35-60% cited as course-funnel KPI in Learnybox (vendor target, not audited benchmark)

Step 2 — The ad's only job is the click

Write several angles (the same offer framed for different pains), keep the promise identical to the landing page headline, and check the copy against Meta's policy rules before it ever reaches Ads Manager — personal attributes and Special Ad Category triggers are the two most common self-inflicted rejections.

Step 3 — The landing page's job is the conversion

One page, one action. Across all industries the median lead conversion rate is 7.72% and the median cost per lead is $27.66 (WordStream / LocaliQ Facebook Ads Benchmarks 2025 (US leads campaigns)) — if your page converts far below the median for your industry, the page is the problem, not the ad.

Step 4 — Follow-up is where the money is

Most leads are not ready on day one. A real nurture sequence — email plus DM scripts, written as part of the funnel, not improvised later — is what turns a cost per lead into a cost per customer.

Step 5 — Retargeting closes the loop

Video viewers, page visitors and lead-magnet downloaders each get a different next message. Retargeting stacks are a standard section of every Kronos package because skipping them is leaving the warmest audience unaddressed.

Step 6 — Measure against benchmarks, then fix the weakest link

Compare your CPL, CPC, CTR and CVR to your industry's benchmark row (in Kronos, this is the audit). Fix the link that is furthest below benchmark first — that ordering is most of what "optimization" means.
